A COP involved in the arrest of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch Spain has hinted that the mob boss may have been tipped off before a failed undercover sting at Malaga Airport.
The international hunt for Hutch was launched in 2021 after a European Arrest Warrant was issued by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin.

Mando, who was part of the secretive Fugitive Action Task Force (FAST) of La Guardia Civil who nabbed Hutch in Fuengirola, claims Hutch was told about the operation by someone.
For a special Prime Time documentary broadcast last night on RTÉ One, the officer explained that Gardai liasons were weary of investigations being leaked to Hutch.
He said: “They wanted to manage this (the investigation) on a top secret level becaused it was supposed that he had very good connections around the Ireland and in Spain.”
According to the Prime Time investigation, Spanish cops hoped to catch Hutch quickly.
As part of their investigation, they found that Hutch had flown from Lanzarote to Malaga, and had booked a return flight.
Following the revelation, the FAST agents set up an undercover sting operation at the airport.
However, the Dubliner never arrived.
Mando explained: “We tried to get him at the airport. But just a few hours after the international warrant was issued he never appeared.”
And when asked if Hutch had potentially been told about the “top secret” investigation, he added: “You cannot be sure of that, but Irish authorities were afraid of that due to the profile of this man.”
Eventually, in August 2021, Hutch was tracked to the resort town of Fuengirola.
Here, six intelligence led FAST officers arrested the Dublin gangster while he ate with his wife at the busy Limoncello Restaurant.
It had been almost five months since the international warrant had been issued for Hutch’s arrest on suspicion of the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in 2016.
However, after being cleared of the charge two days ago, concern has now sparked as to where Hutch could now flee.
After walking out of court a free man, the stony-faced Dubliner was swooped away in a taxi to an unknown location.
At present, Gerry Hutch has his own passport and is free to travel across Europe.
Gardai are also expected to draw up a policing plan if he continues to live in Ireland.
However, gardai don’t believe he will remain in the country over concerns for his safety and also because of his notoriety.
The infamous crime figure also had access to properties in Holland before he was arrested in Spain.
And detectives in Holland have told of their fears Hutch, 60, could return to the country.
However, others believe he could return to Spain because of his access to properties in the region and his long association with the country.
